Dr. Ramesh Shastri — hawa mein udta jaaye fame lyricist

Dr.Ramesh Shastri is not known much in film industry. He hailed from Allahabad (State UP).  He was born on 31st December 1920. He completed his education from Banaras Hindu University. He was an Ayurvedacharya and a Sanskrit Scholar, hence he was honored with the name Shastriji. He came to Bombay around the year 1945. Initially he started a Classical Dance institute in Fort. He also was a lyrist for religious movies. His known bhajans are from the movie

Usha Haran (1949)     – “Aaj Mere Jivan Ke Nabh Me Chayi Hai Andhiyari”

  • “Raat Suhani Khili Chandni Neel Gagan Lehraye”
  • “Jhilmil Jhilmil Tare Chamke Man Ujiyara”

“Ram Vivah (1949)”       –  “Roop Anup Suhaye Kamariya Nagin Si” and

“Har Har Mahadev” (1949) –  ”Kankar kankar se mai puchhu shankar mera kaha hain”

As he was not very ambitious about the film industry he stopped writing after his very popular song from Film

Barsaat” – “Hava me udata jaaye”
His Bhajans under pen name of ‘Ramsharan’ were aired from Radio Ceylon. He started practising medicine from 1960 onwards. He was a very simple and humble person. He was well known for his charity and hard work. He used to treat the poor for free and there was no time limit for his patients. He passed away on 8th February 1980. He is survived by his 1 Son and 5 daughters. His youngest daughter Narayani Shastri made to the small screen and is very popular for her roles in Kahani Saat Pheron Ki, Kohi Apna SaKyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu ThiSanjivani etc. Currently, his entire family is staying in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
